Welcome to our Little Green Blog. On it you will find our family’s eco friendly journey towards ethical living, self sufficiency and a sustainable lifestyle.

Sharing my life and experiences on a blog is something I have been meaning to do for ages. I’m not into new years resolutions - there is something about them that set us up for failure by the middle of January, but I do like to set myself goals. Short term, mid and long term.

My short term goal then, is to write on this blog once or twice a week to share anything of interest. I will cover environmental issues, eco conscious, sustainable living, gardening, self sufficiency, real food, frugality, energy, reusing, reducing, recycling, recipes, repairs, permaculture, fair trade, organic, foraging, down shifting, compost, making your own cleaning products, using natural healing methods………..

Geesh - and I though I would have nothing to write about! When Mr.Green feels inspired, he will be here to post up too.

So, about us.

‘Us’ comprises of me (Mrs Green), my husband (Mr Green), our six year old daughter (Little Miss Green) and last remaining, elderly cat (pussus cattus Green). We have an assortment of visiting chickens, sheep and horses and live in the UK in an ex council semi detached house.

We’re very fortunate to live in a beautiful part of the world with a gorgeous view at the back of the house and friendly neighbours - what a difference a couple of great neighbours makes to life!

Over the past few years, our interest in supporting the planet and her inhabitants has grown. I think having a child enhances your awareness of the fragility of life. We are trying to live as lightly on the earth as possible each day and make conscious choices where we can.

Some of our ‘green’ things at the moment are

i) We run a woodburner and burn only fallen wood or wood from sustainably managed land.

ii) We recycle whatever we can, but more on my thoughts on recycling on another post.

iii) We’ve made the decision to cut down our car usage. I would like to cut it down more, but have anxiety issues and just need to know I have an escap

e route, so that will have to wait for my recovery.

iv) We cook from scratch, grow our own veg, use limited toiletries and cleaning products.

v) We’re cutting down our reliance on supermarkets and shopping locally.

vi) We have a compost heap! (but all I seem to get from it is brown sludge, so a lot of our scraps goes to the sheep and chickens)

vii) We have mainly CFLs in the house, but I’m getting my head around the sustainability and health implications of those too and hoping to switch to LEDs.

viii) Clothes comprise mainly of hand-me-downs, charity shops and eBay. I’d like to be a good seamstress, but that skill is eluding me right no

We still have heaps to learn, lots to change, mistakes to learn from, stacks of ideas (we’re ideas people and grounding them into reality is our goal), things to share and lots of love to spread around the planet.

Have a wonder full Sunday and I look forward to meeting some of you on my travels around blog world.
