Fancy some pond dipping, mini-beast hunts, a jungle book adventure trail or a teddy bears picnic?

Next week is National Parks week (Monday 28th July to Sunday 3rd August 2008) and they are celebrating local Food and Farming.

There are 14 beautiful national parks in the UK which have green and natural stretches of countryside to be enjoyed, free of charge!

There are some sustainable activities taking place as well such as bushcraft basics or survival skills. All of these can help you to be more self sufficient. All activities are a brilliant way to introduce children to some eco friendly fun.

Supporting local produce means a lower carbon footprint and fewer food miles. Buying locally means you support rural food producers who take good care of the environment. Farming maintains National Park landscapes and contributes greatly to the wildlife, cultural value, and local and regional livelihood of communities within National Parks.

All National Parks are an important part of our nation’s heritage and are safeguarded for future generations.

Find out what’s happening near you with their events finder and find out where to buy and eat the best local produce with their list of farm shops, markets and restaurants.
