One of the simplest ways to change the world with Donate Mobile

donate mobile graphicLove them or loathe them, the mobile phone is here to stay.

I tend to take a pragmatic view of these things. Sure it would be great if we could do without some of our technology, but used wisely mobile phones can make our lives a lot easier.

If you check your emails within 30 seconds of waking and can’t go on holiday unless there is wifi access then things are out of balance.

But to keep in touch with loved ones or know you can contact someone in an emergency, provides many of us with peace of mind and convenience.

As the saying goes “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em'” so I like to combine these ‘necessary evils’ with either doing good or having less impact. (Remember my challenge to run my mobile phone off grid by using solar chargers?)

One of our daughter’s friends is addicted to her mobile phone. I once watched her walk down her drive and to the bottom of ours in order to get a signal to call my daughter who was in our house!

The phone is always in her hands, and I mean “Always”. She told me the other week she sends over 500 text messages per DAY. You can’t have a conversation with her without her looking to check her phone. She also admitted to sleep texting.

Wow!

On the other hand, if you’re broken down on the motorway a mobile phone is a godsend and I admit it; I probably wouldn’t want to be without mine for too long now. I like that I can stay in touch with Little miss green when she’s out and about.

So wouldn’t it be great if every time you used your mobile phone you could at least do something good at the same time?

Instead of feeling you’re tied into one of the ‘big boys’, giving your money to a faceless corporation who invests is goodness knows what, you can do some good.

Donate Mobile

Donate Mobile help you do exactly that. All you do is replace your SIM with one of theirs and continue to use your mobile phone as normal. As if by magic, 10% of your bill is given to the charity of your choice. And it doesn’t cost YOU any more – the 10% comes from Donate mobile’s profit (8% from their profit + 2% in Gift Aid).

The charities are great too. Donate mobile have some great organisations on hand and my favourite has recently come on line – the Cats Protection. This is where my beloved first cat, Wordsworth came from, and I’ve had a soft spot for the charity ever since.

Changing the world can feel daunting, but Donate Mobile share the message that changing the world is all about the small things – just like the wonderful Change the World Wednesday challenge we take part in most weeks.

By buying fairtrade, recycling plastics and walking to work we can make small changes that add up to significant impact. So just imagine if everyone switched to donate mobile?

Donate Mobile can cater for you whatever package you choose – from pay monthly to PAYG, you can keep your mobile number and call friends and family on Donate Mobile for free. You really have nothing to lose! In fact the only difference between your current provider and Donate Mobile is that every call, text or email you send helps the cause closest to your heart.

If you’re looking for the ideal Christmas present for an elderly relative to give peace of mind; the Doro 615 mobile phone is available from Donate Mobile with up to 51% off. It is easy-to-use with large display and big buttons – and with a 10% donation to charity, it’s the gift that keeps on giving!

What about you? Do you have ways of making your mobile phone more sustainable?
