Hello there -- I've been reading your posts with great interest for a while now and just want to say that you always seem to dispense the right dose of green, whether your readers are just dipping their toes into the water or they are a lot more in tune to the scene. I wrote a piece not too long ago which touched on the very basic things that people can do to launch their green lifestyle change...perhaps you might be interested in checking it out? I'd love feedback from a fellow green enthusiast! http://www.greenwala.com/my_blog/823-Top-10-Greenie-Newbie-Lifestyle-Basics Thanks so much for your time and I look forward to reading your upcoming posts! Best Wishes, Elizah Leigh

Hi Paige,
Good to see you here and thank you for sharing your tip. We use a lot of baking soda for cleaning and find it to be very effective.
Are there any jobs you find it to be particularly useful for? It never ceases to amaze me how well it can clean the hob!

Thanks for the link to the green pages site. It looks great and it's wonderful to connect with so many people wanting to do their bit to help the environment.

Great to see tips on the <a href="http://www.thegreenpages.com.au/index.asp?page_id=314" rel="nofollow">green home</a>, and tips like these are so simple to adapt!

Another great simple green cleaning tip is to baking soda. It really cuts through grime and kills odour. Keep up the great work with the blog.

Hi Jon, great to see you and thank you for your comment. You know, I did wonder about the brick thing when I wrote it. I guess it's not such a good idea after all!

Whether or not the bottle releases phthalates would depend on the type of plastic I guess. To my limited knowledge, these are usually released more when the product is warm - so I would imagine it not to be too big an issue in a toilet cistern?

Let me know if you find out more on this topic; it's fascinating how a tiny thing can spark so much interest and need for further thought!

Bricks apparently crumble and damage the cistern and bowl.

I am using a bottle at the moment. Any one know if these release phthalates? How about hippos are they phthalate free?

Hi Darren - that is a great tip and a topic which we cover on the site. It is fast becoming apparent that a vegetarian diet, or at least a meat-reduced diet is better for the environment.
Thanks for taking time to leave a comment and keep up the great work with your own site :)

Hi, I just discovered you via the Problogger 31 Days project.

My tip for your readers would be to have one vegetarian meal each week. Meat production generally involves a huge amount of water and other resources, so having one meat-free meal per week can reduce your environmental footprint by more than you'd think.

Keep up the great work!
