Autumn is the perfect time for setting up a compost heap.
You can clear your garden of dead plants, old crop stems and empty the contents of your flower containers. Instead of throwing this ‘waste’ away, you can turn it into a valuable resource by composting it.
This will save you money in the spring time when you might normally buy bags of compost from the garden centre. In addition you’ll be doing your bit for the planet by keeping green waste from the landfill.[amazon-product align="right" small="1"]1847865313[/amazon-product]
Recycle Now, in conjunction with WRAP’s Home Composting Campaign, are woking with Local Authorities across the UK to offer householders discounted compost bins until 30th September.
To find out whether your Local Authority is taking part in the Home Composting Campaign, visit Recycle Now and enter your postcode into the box or call 0845 076 0223. In our area, we can get a 330 litre compost bin for just £5!
Remember, it’s not just garden waste that can be composted. It’s estimated that around 60% of the things we throw away each week can be turned into valuable plant food – fruit and vegetable peelings, scrap paper, cardboard, coffee grounds, egg shells and even your own nail clippings can all be added along with many more items!
