@Brian: Hello Brian, welcome to the site and thanks for your advise. Mr Green tends to think that foam means clean, but I see foam means lots of rinse water and streaking no matter what!

Methods Natural House is a good soap to use for window cleaning. The one thing that you need to make sure is not to use too much soap in your water. A quick squirt of soap in a 3 gallon bucket should be enough. Too much suds no matter how good the soap is will leave suds. I also found that Natural House gives your squeegee really good glide, helping you clean windows faster and better.

@Green Cleaning: Hi Green cleaning, glad to see you are making the switch too
As for cost; I find home made to be much cheaper – you are not paying for packaging or the convenience of someone making the product for you.
So if you can invest time and energy, you will save money.

As for quality; I find for most jobs, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar are as good as anything else! When it comes to tougher things like grease or grime, a shop bought product can have the edge.

I’ll soon be doing a series of videos trialling conventional and eco friendly cleaning products side by side – it should be interesting and I’ll be doing them live!

@Green Cleaning: I just saw that you asked about pricing on green cleaning products. I am really trying to “go green” in cleaning right now, but some of the store bought ones are so expensive, but I recently found this site, http://www.greencupboards.com, and it is kind of like the Costco of green products. They have a whole bunch of great cleaning and personal care products in bulk, and most of them are also heavily concentrated, so they last a really long time! The pricing seems high at first, but I have begun to save a lot, buying green products in bulk.

I would definitely recommend the method products, as well as, Howard Naturals. Both work great.

Hi Mrs. Green- thanks for such a helpful post! I just switching over to the “green side” and am trying to find as many tips as possible. However, I was wondering what the price difference is between the home made products and the bought ones? I know the home-made would be cheaper, but are they even comparable in quality?

@Goo: Hi Goo, good to hear a recommendation for the Method toilet cleaner. Sorry to hear your daughter misses out though; perhaps her job could be to keep the sinks unblocked with a once weekly fizz bomb flush through!

I like Method’s loo cleaner, it’s the best eco-cleaner for this purpose I’ve come across yet. My daughter is a little disappointed however, she likes making fizz bombs with vinegar and bicarb!
