Switch your light bulbs to LEDs

Submitted by Mrs Green on Wednesday, 9 May 20122 Comments

LEDs - the eco friendly alternative to CFLsWe all know by now that replacing incandescent bulbs with CFLs can save electricity, help save the planet and reduce our bills.

Unfortunately, CFLs contain mercury, which is a very toxic substance. We should all dispose of CFLs responsibly so that the mercury can be removed and reused, but will we?

An even better alternative is LEDs. LEDs last 10 times longer again, they use less electricity to run AND there is no mercury! At the moment they are quite expensive, but demand will bring the price down, so why not install one and see how you get on? They even come in an exciting range of colours!

Mr Green is currently making some LEDs - read more about his project here.

  • We’ve got to be united to save earth! Earth Hour is practised at large scale in all developed and developing countries but there has been more publicity and awareness this year, as well as participation from large corporations like http://www.commit21.com/ which is a good sign - that there is still hope and that people still care!

Let’s all do this, no matter where you are! Saturday, 28 March 2009. Lights off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm!

@Nature Concern: Hi Nature concern. I like your first line - we’ve got to be united to save earth. We agree!

I’m covering Earth Hour on the blog and we shall be participating at home. Is commit21 your own site? It looks great :)
