I'm a kitchen designer in St. Louis. We are doing a new display in our showroom and in an effort to showcase the "latest and greatest" we are using LED lighting in one area of the display.

I am looking forward to the release of LEP's - Light Emitting Polymers (based on pioneering work in Cambridge University and adopted by Sony). In theory LEP's are easier to manufacture and may actually be "sprayed" onto a surface using the emerging technology of rapid prototyping.

@Goo: I don't think I realised you were off grid. Well LEDs would be fabulous for you and I agree it's great to see some UK retailers getting on board.

This interests us as we live off-grid and anything that takes the pressure off our inverter and generator is good. I was pleased to see that their website pointed to UK retailers, we're possibly a bit behing the US in this and they're quite hard to find.

I didn't know they were used in shops not to melt make-up either, fascinating!

@pure planet recycling: Hi there. It is good news indeed; I'd never considered they were used in retail because they don't create so much heat. Thanks for that!

I had heard that led will be big in the home this year, you get the savings from running the light, alot greener and less hit emitted from the bulbs! They have been used for years in retail lighting especially around make up containers so not to heat the make up. Glad its making the cross over into the home!
