Using a simple and presumably cheap paper shade seems to improve the light considerably. I've got LED spotlights on a stand and the light is quite sharp to my eyes. I don't think I can put shades on them as the design is wrong. Next time I replace a centre fitting, I'll try your idea out though. Thanks for sharing.
