Do they have ZipCar there as well? Zipcar bought Flexcar here several years back and I think they said it started in the UK…? I have a membership as a car-free girl and LOVE it!! US $10/hr includes all gas and insurance and is so great if I need to go pick up something *big* that’s not bike-able - like my annual truckloads of mulch for the garden, or monster bags of dog food for the pup There are so many ways to decrease driving even if you can’t go car-free - Zipcar here has encouraged many families to go from 2 to 1 car, which I love hearing about Thanks for sharing your story!

@nadine sellers: I think the scheme sounds fantastic and am looking forward to it being a success over here. It seems a no brainer really and no doubt something we all did a few years ago when one-car families (or less!) were the norm… One of our neighbours houses boasts SIX cars on the drive!

Babel on wheels, i like the way people are reacting to financial pressures by becoming more and more innovative, and ecologists must be relieved as well. less pollution, more sociability…nice to note.
