Two VIPS visit Chez Green!

two ducks, taking a visit to Chez Green this week! This afternoon I got back from an errand and was walking across the drive to our house when someone called me from behind.

I turned round to see who my guest was and I saw this cute pair following me!

I got them some food and they spent about 20 minutes devouring everything they could get hold of. I don’t know much about ducks, but I have seen this behaviour before - the female ate everything in sight, while the male ’stood guard’ next to her, talking loudly. He was able to grab a couple of last minute beaks full of food before she squeaked at him it was time to go.

They took off, rather noisily and carelessly and flew across the garden……..

I’m guessing she has a clutch of eggs either inside her or in a nest somewhere and his protective instinct is in full swing. He followed her around like a true bodyguard and although grateful for the food, was not going to allow me to get too close to them.

Little Miss Green was enchanted, but seemed to think they would be most interested in seeing her perform cartwheels and hand stands, and of course, she couldn’t resist trying to get closer to them than they felt was comfortable.

Many animals are creatures of habit, so we’re going to go out there at the same time tomorrow and see if they are around again.

So, did they come again next day?

They didn’t come the next day, but we have ducks padding around in the stream at the back of the house - they are so cute!
