I like to create culinary messes in the kitchen. Some are good, some are not quite so good.

This week I had one egg white left over and was wondering what to do with it. I found a recipe for chocolate macaroons and thought I’d make half a batch to use up the egg white.

I followed the recipe meticulously (usually a bad move; I’m a rebel by heart) and from the gorgeous photos was expecting this:

However, I got this:

The thing is, my beautiful, adoring family didn’t care what they looked like. They didn’t notice I had to scrape them off the tray and they ended up looking like something you’d avoid stepping in on the pavement. They weren’t concerned how they were presented.

They, after oohing and aahing about how great they tasted still gave me this:
