Alternatives to travel vaccines

family on holidayLast week I shared some tips for keeping healthy while on holiday.

According to Lynne McTaggart, of all vaccinations, travel vaccinations have the poorest record of success.

Obviously you don’t want to take risks with your health when abroad, so what can you do to protect yourself?

Here’s some basic information about each disease that we are advised to be vaccinated against extracted from Lynne McTaggart’s ‘What Doctors Don’t tell you’.
Please note that the parts titled: ‘Homeopathic measure for use during infection / during outbreaks’ is not to be used as a precautionary ‘just in case’ measure – that’s no better than the vaccinations we are offered; they are for use if there is a REAL RISK of contracting a disease.

Homeopathic doses listed under ‘self help’, however, can be taken as a preventative.

Cholera
Spread by faecally contaminated food and water and by flies.

Incubation: 3-5 days
symptoms: nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, severe watery diarrhoea
The cholera vaccine, in particular is notoriously ineffective – only 50% reliable and then only for a short period of time.
Homeopathic measure for use during outbreaks: Cholera 30 nosode – one prior to travelling and once a week during an outbreak OR Cuprum 30 once a week during an outbreak
Self help: Follow strict hygiene rules particularly concerning water and uncooked foods. Drink plenty of pure water and replace lost fluids. Studies show that a person may have more than a billion cholera bugs in the body without even developing the disease.
Diptheria
Incubation 2-4 days
symptoms: sore throat, tonsils covered in a grey-white membrane that cannot be brushed off with a swab and in rare cases paralysis and obstructed breathing.
Homeopathic measure for use during infection or risk of infection: Diptherinum 30 nosode – once a week during the risk of infection OR Pyrogen 30 once a week during infection

Hepatitis A
Spread by food or drink infected with faecal matter
Incubation 3-6 weeks
symptoms: loss of appetite and nausea, especially at the sight of food (particularly fatty food), general malaise and headache. After a few days the urine becomes dark, the faeces pale and the whites of the eyes and skin turn yellow
Homeopathic preventative measure for use in high risk areas: Hepatitis A 30 once a week in high risk area[amazon-product align=”right” small=”1″]0007176279[/amazon-product]
Self help: Take one Chelidonium 30 eight days before departure and repeat the dose once every week of your stay. Follow strict hygiene rules particularly concerning water and uncooked foods.

Hepatitis B
Spread by non-sterile syringes, poor surgical technique and sexual contact
Incubation 3-6 months
symptoms: loss of appetite and nausea, especially at the sight of food (particularly fatty food), general malaise and headache. After a few days the urine becomes dark, the faeces pale and the whites of the eyes and skin turn yellow
Homeopathic preventative measure: Hepatitis B 30 – three doses 12 hours apart following a high risk incident, such as a dubious injection or operation
Self help: Take one Chelidonium 30 eight days before departure and repeat the dose once every week of your stay. Follow strict hygiene rules particularly concerning water and uncooked foods.

Malaria
spread by mosquito bites
symptoms: headache, fever and shivering fits. Jaundice may develop
Homeopathic preventative measure: Malaria 30 nosode – once a week in high risk areas and continue treatment for 4 weeks afterwards AND China officinalis 6 – take once a day for the other 6 days of the week in high risk areas. Continue for 2 weeks after leaving the area.
Self help: Where mosquitoes prove a risk, keep yourself covered up in clothing, sleep under a mosquito net and use essential oils such as lemongrass or eucalyptus to prevent being bitten. Research also shows that taking a vitamin B complex for a month before and during your visit lessens the risk of being bitten. If you can find an experienced Chinese herbalist, ask about Wormwood. Take one Natrum Mur 30 six days before departure and repeat the dose once every week of your stay

Polio
a virus infection which attacks nerve cells in the spinal cord; the virus grows in the digestive tract and is extracted in the faeces
Incubation 7-14 days
symptoms: headache, sore throat and stiffness in the neck – in many cases the disease progresses no further and it is mistaken for ‘flu. If the full-blown disease sets in, then paralysis sets in on the 4th or 5th day.
Homeopathic preventative measure: Poliosyelitis 30 nosode – one dose a week for three weeks if there is an epidemic or contact with the disease is suspected OR Lythrus 30 once dose a week for three weeks following any contact with the disease.
Self help: Take one Lathyns satirus 30 seven days before departure

Thyphoid
transmitted via contamination of food and water
symptoms: fever with severe diarrhoea
Homeopathic preventative measure: Salmonella Typhi 30 nosode: Once a week when travelling in high risk areas.
Self help: take one Manganum 30 three days before departure. Follow strict hygiene rules particularly concerning water and uncooked foods.

Yellow fever
transmitted by mosquitoes
Incubation 3-6 days
symptoms: fever, chills, aching muscles, headache, vomiting and pain in upper abdomen. Many cases progress no further than this. In severe cases, jaundice and haemorrhaging can occur.
Homeopathic preventative measure: Yellow fever 30 nosode: Once a week whilst travelling in endemic regions or one dose three times a week during an epidemic
Self help: Take one Arsenicum album 30 five days before departure
