how to run a greener business

Small business is big business and a green business is a golden business. Yes, the way that we do business is changing. From now on, eco-friendly business is the way forward, especially after a recent survey showed that consumers are willing to pay more for sustainable packaging. With this in mind, here are some small steps that you can take to make your business and the world around you a bit greener.

Go paperless

Paper is one of those things that businesses seem to go at a rate of knots. And for every piece of paper that is filed away, 20 other pieces go through the shredder. It’s time to cut the clutter and go paper free. There are many alternatives to using paper including going completely digital. Even if you have contacts that need to be signed, there is software that allows you to ensign documents and create legal contracts without using any paper. If you are wondering how to store these digital documents, you can do it online with cloud storage or you could invest in your own servers. It is always a good idea to have a backup of your documents in case your system gets wiped.

Self promotion

If you have an online presence for your business, you should be using it to your advantage. This includes using Social Media Design to engage with your customer and telling them how you are doing your bit to reduce your carbon footprint. This in itself doesn’t seem like a green idea, but by telling your customers about the small things that you are doing can encourage them to take some extra steps to become more eco-friendly too.

Recycle everything

We can’t help it if there are things that we need for our homes and businesses. However, our shopping patterns can change and we can make better choices. When it comes to things for your business, try and repair and make do with what you have before you go and buy something else. If you can, buy second hand. And if you do have to buy something new, make sure that you get as much use out of it as you can before passing it on to someone else. Not only is this better for the environment, it will save you a lot of money.

Work with other green businesses

We are all stronger when we work together so now is a great time to work with other green businesses. You might be surprised by the businesses around you that are pledging to go greener. Also, if you use local businesses, you can reduce your carbon footprint by using them instead of another company on the other side of the country. And, even if the local businesses are not as green as you would like them to be, they are still a better option than the eco-friendly company 200 miles away.

And there we have it. Four simple ways that you can create a greener business and some golden opportunities for others to join you on your eco-friendly journey.
