Three ways to banish colds and flu

three-natural-ways-to-banish-colds-and-fluMy friend is still getting over a horrible cold that had her bedridden for a week.

Here at Little Green Blog HQ we’re putting all our ideas into place to stop us picking up bugs and germs.

Scientists still don’t really know why we get more illnesses like the common cold and flu during autumn and winter. While avoiding contact with sick people as much as possible and taking multivitamins seem common sense ways to help support ourselves, today I wanted to share some more ideas for banishing winter colds.

You are what you eat

The right sorts of foods can increase the white blood cell count in your body to help battle against infections. Adding foods like garlic with its anti viral, anti fungal and anti bacterial can really support the body. Pumpkin seeds contain zinc which are so important for good immune system function.

Herbal remedies

I’m constantly in awe of nature and all she provides. Some herbal remedies can stave off illnesses and boost the immune system. Take a look around your own home; there is a belief that the medicine you need grows close to you!

Echinacea is well known to aid the body in its fight to avoid colds and flu. It works by strengthening the immune system. Black elderberry helps reduce the severity and duration of symptoms associated with colds and flu.

Essential oils

There’s rarely a day that passes without me burning essential oils at home. And if you’re quick to spot symptoms of illness, a warm bath with a handful of epsom salts and a few drops of antiviral essential oils can work wonders in stopping bugs at bay. Try eucalyptus, lavender or tea tree.

What about you? How do you keep healthy when there are colds and flu about?
